    Dreamer CS day 3

    Fed at 730 this morning
Worked out in the afternoon – leading lesson on the south side of the ranch did not go well. He got away a couple times.

Decision was made to send him off somewhere, TBD, that understands the feral mustang and can work together better.

    Dreamer CS Day 2

    Day two

    • 11 am – ten minutes: I went out to feed and add panels so we have a small round pen in the staging zone. Dreamer left his hay to follow me in so I took advantage of the timing. I put a soft twine on his nose asking for bend left and right from left side.

    Dreamer Colt Starting Day 1

November 20th – Dreamer’s first day of true colt starting

    Dreamer 2022-11-20

Dreamer did great today. Nothing new is introduced. For the past two years we’ve led up to this moment. He’s gone on small walks. He’s done all of the these things in one fashion or another. Today we put them all together in a shorter amount of time.

    Tasks

    • Turnout catch – B minus, he left once but really just walking away. Caught easy enough after
    • Soft lunge both directions – A plus
    • Sidling – still swinging his hip out but a few successes of sidling right up to the platform
    • Over head work – a bit of a concern, but never wanting to leave
    • Cinch touching, body patting, leaning over his back – all fine
    • Jumping beside him – slight pull aways and leaves, but never high energy, just a stepping away decision making to leave
    • Walk about with the garbage bin, inspected a new toddler yard toy, motorcycles – slightly high energy but not bad, alert, was really more worried about eating grass than the things around him
    • Grooming – impatience to eat the pellets on the ground, general irritated boredom at being at the rail
    • Time: 45 minutes

    Training – Fresh Starts

    2021 – Fresh Starts

2021/22 Season will bring a fresh start to traning.

Elli: Will get fitness training. At 22 I only expect her to maintain muscle mass and give the occasional pony ride to littles.

Arwen: Fully healed from the hock injury in 2020, she is ready to get back to work. We’ll leverage her 90 days with Jeremy and start over in the round pen.

    Arwen

StarFire: At 18 months, he’s ready to learn some lessons. His focus will be confidence and trust, to work on slowing his reactions down. He doesn’t think, he just reacts.

    StarFire

Dreamer: Also 18 months, his lessons will focus on engagement. He’s very “whoa” unless super scared. So confidence, obviously, and to get him thinking less and trusting the choice.
