Charis

Charis is a Tobiano Dun, color results are E/e D/nd2 n/T. She joined DSR on January 29th, 2024. Her Dam’s name is ‘Mersey’ which sounds like Mercy. Her Sire is 4C Zilver Erebos. It was only fitting that she gets a name from one of the Charity goddesses – Charis means ‘Grace’ which the ‘girls at the barn’ are already calling her. I am sticking with the Greek theme, since the Romani people spoke Greek.

Meaning: grace. Charis is a girl’s name with Greek origins. The name Charis means grace and is a fitting title for elegant girls.

Her name sounds like kar-iss to our American ears.

2024-06-08: Charis has show her spiciness and her sweetness since she’s been here. She’s a very forward horse, and often times quite pushy. The problem with this is that she just doesn’t have the confidence to match her prowess, yet. She’ll get there. Over the past few months she’s done well at several local ‘schooling’ shows for obstacles. She even made a trip to Reno for Gypsy Fest put on by the Western States Gypsy Horse Club.

We are constantly working on leading manners, and slowing down. She jumps off everything rather than walking, pushes her way through without thinking, and will run the human over without thinking about consequences when she gets startled. On the flip side, she is very willing, incredibly smart, and really just wants to be by your side curiously doing whatever the human is doing. For a one year old, she really has the genuine ‘be-with-you’ nature of the gypsies. I Look forward to our next several adventures.
