I have been looking for a riding horse for a few years now. I’ve found several geldings that never seemed quite right. I’ve found a few mares that just don’t fit the program I want to build. If I’m going to have a stud around, I need to make sure that any one that he can breed to will produce offspring I can be proud of.
I finally chose one, and learned she had already been sold, and with a breeding that I’m really interested in making. Then a few days later another mare was presented. She was young, only 4. There were some things, that again, didn’t add up for me. However, that mare, led me to finding Krea.
I chatted with a friend, that I didn’t know if she knew the mare, or the owner. Turns out she did. She got me some more video and then gave me her opinion on the mare. She then put us in touch.
The mare, however, was pregnant and the owner wanted them both together. I wasn’t sure if that meant I needed to keep the unborn foal, or if there was the possibility of selling it, if it did not meet my criteria, or if it was a colt. A colt would defeat the purpose of having a breeding stud around, because I will not allow him to breed back.
The next day I went looking for the advertisements of the mare, and they were ALL gone. I was devastated. I was hoping we’d come to an agreement that I would, most likely, buy her. After a quick conversation with the owner, I realized they were taken down because she was too close to foaling. The conversation did lead to the agreement I would purchase them both and agreements were made.
So, I introduce you to Krea, Hope Hill Fire & Lace. The maternity shots were taken on 5/31/2024. She gave birth to a strapping baby boy on 6/6/2024. Unfortunately the foal gained his wings and is already missed, even though I didn’t get to meet him.
